Pier 1 Imports set to open Kona store

Home furnishings retailer Pier 1 Imports will open its Kona store on Friday.

A blessing ceremony, followed by live entertaining, will start at 9:30 a.m. The store will open to the public at 10 a.m.

The store is located in the Kona Coast Shopping Center at 74-5586 Palani Road in Kailua-Kona.

The Kona Pier 1 will be the chain’s first store on the Big Island, although it operates other stores on Oahu and Maui.

Pier 1 began in 1962 with a single store in San Mateo, Calif. Since then, it has have grown to more than 1,000 locations with 15,000 employees.

The company offers a wide variety of exclusive home furnishing and décor products. It is privately owned but trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol PIR.
